We think of ecosystems as being big places like a rainforest, or a desert. But did you know that there are micro ecosystems, little tiny habitats that are filled with living things! Even tree bark can have lots of interesting things growing on it! For today's assignment, GO OUTSIDE. Find the most interesting tree bark picture and place your frog on it. Your picture should have LOTS OF LIVING THINGS such as moss or lichen or mushrooms or little bugs etc. It might have SIGNS OF LIVING THINGS... The more living things a habitat has, the healthier the ecosystem.
written observations: Tell us where you found this picture and what drew you to this particular tree bark. Tell us how many different kinds of living things you can see on this tree bark. Tell us where you took your pic, whether your tree was evergreen or deciduous and also what sounds of animals you heard, if any.
UPLOAD YOUR PICS between 11 and 12 today!
Here is an example. I found this tree bark in Central Park. It has lichen (light grey green upper left), moss, and a little bush growing out of it. The holes were made by woodpecker, which ate the bugs living there. The white stuff is left by an owl. When I took this picture, I heard chickadees.
TEAMS ASSIGNMENT:
upload your OWN PICTURE and words. And look at ALL THE PICTURES. What were the most common living things mentioned by the whole class?
